With the Bills and the Chiefs already clinching their bids into the playoffs yesterday, i’m going to give you all possible playoff clinching scenario for Week 14 and teams that are facing elimination going into tonight’s Monday Night Football game on ESPN. We will be breaking this story into two sections, one for the AFC, and one for the NFC. First up is the AFC.
AFC
The Chiefs and the Bills both clinched their bids into the playoffs this past Thanksgiving weekend following their wins, but what about the rest of the teams that are fighting for a spot, well for some teams, it’s not looking too good, and for others, it’s looking real good.
-The Raiders, Jaguars and Patriots are the only AFC facing elimination tonight with a win from Denver. But if Denver doesn’t win, they can still make the playoffs, but they’d just have to win every remaining game on the season and also pray that Denver we’re to lose every game.
-The Patriots aren’t so lucky, since they only have 4 games left on the season. They wouldn’t have the luxury of winning out. (all teams in playoffs have 7 wins or more)
Raiders next five opponents (home games in bold)
Buccaneers
Falcons
Jaguars
Saints
Chargers
Jaguars next five opponents (home games in bold)
Titans
Jets
Raiders
Titans
Colts
-The Titans and Jets can get eliminated from the playoffs during Week 14, if DEN wins on MNF today, and the Jets and Titans lose their matchups on Sunday
Titans play the Jaguars in Tennessee
Jets play the Dolphins in Miami
-The Browns will also be fighting to keep their season alive today, a loss to DEN today, and during Week 14 against the Steelers, would mathematically eliminate them from the playoffs. (They can allow a win to Denver, but would have to win out)
Steelers can start paving the road to clinching their playoff spot, here’s what they need first in Week 14.
Beat the Browns.
Dolphins lose to the Jets.
Then if all that goes to plan, they will look to win in Week 15 against the Eagles and a Colts loss to the Broncos.
If all that happens, the Steelers will be in the playoffs by the end of Week 15.
NFC
The only NFC team facing elimination this weekend is the Carolina Panthers, they face the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Giants we’re eliminated this past weekend.
Their is no playoff clinching scenario in the NFC during Week 14, it is all still too close to call in the Top 7.
