Bear Sports News

It is finally that time of year, where snow games are more likely, playoff pushes are close by, and teams are starting to clinch playoff spots. Today we saw the Chiefs lock down the 1st seed, which essentially means, they don’t need to play a meaningful football game in over 3 weeks. Which could cause for a first slow first half for the Chiefs in their next matchup. But depending on how Andy Reid decides to play the last two games of the season, then Chiefs fans shouldn’t worry.

But regardless, other teams like the Broncos, Bengals, are all staring down their chances at their own chances at the NFL Playoffs. Today we will break down all the teams that still have a chance in the playoffs, and what needs to happen to make the playoffs.

AFC Playoff Picture

Teams Clinched: Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers. Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens

Currently, two teams this week can clinch their spot in the NFL Playoffs this weekend and they are the Los Angeles Chargers and the Denver Broncos.

The Los Angeles Chargers either need to win or if that doesn’t happen, they will need the Colts and the Dolphins to both lose their respective games this weekend. The Colts are facing the Giants in New York, and the Dolphins face the Browns in Cleveland.

The Broncos situation is plain and simple. Just go out and win, but the team is traveling down to Cincinnati to face the Bengals on Saturday. A win on Saturday would clinch the Broncos first playoff appearance since 2015. The year they won the Super Bowl, with Peyton Manning.

The Bengals have a far tougher path to the playoffs and that all begins in Cincinnati, where they need to beat Denver, then beat the Steelers in Week 18, then hope Denver loses to the Chiefs in Week 18. Also they will need both the Dolphins and the Colts to lose one of their next two games.

NFC Playoff Picture

Teams Clinched: Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay Packers

Almost every division can be won this weekend as the Rams, Eagles, Falcons, Commanders and Lions can either all clinch playoff spots, win their division or in the Lions case, clinch the first seed.

The Los Angeles Rams have two paths that can clinch the NFC West. The first one is with a win on Saturday over the Cardinals, and a Seattle loss at Chicago on Thursday Night Football. But if that doesn’t work out, they will still need to win and rely on the strength on victory tiebreaker over Seattle.

The Eagles situation to clinch their NFC East isn’t as wonky as the Rams is to clinch their NFC West, as the Eagles either need to win on Sunday VS Dallas at home. Or if that doesn’t go to Sirianni’s plans, then they will all huddle together for Sunday Night Football and hope the Commanders can take the loss.

The Eagles may have a bit of help though from the Atlanta Falcons, who can clinch the NFC South with a win on Sunday Night and a loss from Tampa Bay, who will be facing the Panthers who are coming off a impressive win over the Cardinals.

The Commanders can finally clinch their playoff spot this weekend, which sounds crazy, with them being 10-5. But they will either need to beat Atlanta on SNF or also turn to the Tampa Bay game and pray for a loss from the Bucs. A simple loss from the Bucs would lock them into the playoffs.

The Detroit Lions can also clinch the first seed this weekend, just like the Chiefs did on Saturday. They will need to beat San Francisco on Monday Night Football and will need the Vikings to take the loss against Green Bay on Sunday.

With major playoff implications, across the whole league. This weekend is sure to be one to remember and make a point to watch. With a total of seven teams who can potentially clinch the playoffs this weekend, multiple teams will be looking to play spoiler. Week 17 will be one to remember, strap in everyone.
