Following a 32-20 loss to the New York Jets, which knocked the Dolphins out of the playoffs. Tyreek Hill spoke to reporters after the game and voiced his frustrations.

“This is my first time, i haven’t been in the playoffs”

“I just gotta do what’s best for me and my family. If that’s here or whatever the case may be, i’m finna open that door for myself. I’m opening the door. I’m out, bro.”

“It was great playing here, but at the end of the day bro, I got to do what’s best for my career. I’m too much of a competitor to be just out there”

Hill caught 2 passes for 20 yards VS the Jets, he then exited the game in the fourth quarter. Coach Mike Mcdaniel said he was told Hill was not available for the 4th quarter, and hadn’t suffered a new injury.

“I think at that point of time my focus was on the players and I didn’t take time to go and try and figure out more into that. There were guys on the field that were competing and we were trying to win a game, so my focus was there.”

Hill was asked about the situation and said “ [I’ve been] dealing with a little issue” all season and “coach kind of pulled me out” via Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald.

Drew Rosenbaum, Hill’s agent told Miami’s WSVN that he has to speak with Tyreek Hill before addressing his comments any further.

But then that all changes on Thursday. Drew Rosenhaus went on the Pat McAfee show. Rosenhaus said that Hill’s comments were the emotional words of a frustrated competitor.

“I believe Tyreek is a great asset to the Dolphins and I think he’s the least guy people should be worried about in this organization. They have many more worries. Tyreek Hill’s not one of them.”

Rosenhaus also mentioned that Tyreek played with a broken wrist for the whole season. Rosenhaus said Hill broke his wrist in a scrimmage against the Commanders.

Doctors told Tyreek Hill that he would require surgery and would more than likely not see the field for the 2024-2025 season. Tyreek wasn’t having any of it though. Tyreek told Rosenhaus and the team in a meeting.

“I’m not gonna miss the season. I wanna play. I wanna be here for my team.”

This season was only the third time in his nine year career that Hill has failed to hit the 1000 yard mark. This is coming off of a career year in 2023 when Hill recorded 1799 receiving yards and 13 TD’s.

If Rosenhaus comments are true though, this means that the Dolphins knew about Hill’s injury and failed to report it to the league. They had nine different opportunities to report it and didn’t.

This could be very costly for the Dolphins cause if someone wanted to. This could potentially blow the door wide open for a lawsuit against the Dolphins and potentially the NFL for bettors seeking full reimbursement for wagers placed on Tyreek Hill. (The chances of this happening are very low, but thought i would mention it, since it could possibly happen)

Alright though, according to Rosenhaus. Tyreek doesn’t want a trade, and played with an injury throughout the 2024 campaign. But let’s say that the offseason comes down to the Dolphins wanting to trade Tyreek Hill. Today we will break down, Hill’s contract and what it would cost the Dolphins to release or trade him. Also we’re going to look at which teams would be able to take him on with how their cap stands currently.

Tyreek Hill’s Contract

Just this past offseason, Tyreek Hill and the Dolphins worked out a new deal. Keeping him in Miami after his career high season. This deal was for 3 years, 90 million with 59m guaranteed. He received a 7 million signing bonus. His contract is back loaded, with Hill expected to receive over 50% of the contract in 2026. He also has an opt-out in 2025 offseason but would leave that huge amount on the table.

Now the Dolphins are definitely breathing a sigh of relief hearing that Tyreek Hill wants to stay a Dolphin. These are the numbers if the Dolphins would have chosen to release or trade Tyreek before or after the new league year.

Pre- 6/1 Release

2025 Dead Cap: $56,947,500

2025 Savings $-28,248,750

Pre- 6/1 Trade

2025 Dead Cap: $28,297,500

2025 Savings: $401,250

Post-6/1 Release

2025 Dead Cap: $41,378,750

2026 Dead Cap: $15,568,750

2025 Savings: $-12,680,000

Post-6/1 Trade

2025 Dead Cap: $12,728,750

2026 Dead Cap $15,568,750

2025 Savings: $15,970,000

It’s clear that the Dolphins would have clearly looked for a trade partner in this Hill trade as it would have been far lighter on the cap space and still given them a chance to make some moves in the 2025 offseason. But the question emerges on who possibly could have taken on Hill with their projected cap spaces going into the 2025 offseason.

Possible Trade Suitors

Patriots – 131m

Raiders – 112m

Commanders – 102m

Lions – 95m

Cardinals – 83m

Bears – 81m

Chargers – 74m

Titans – 64m

Packers – 62m

Broncos – 59m

Bengals – 58m

Steelers – 56m

Eagles – 35m

I can see other teams like the Vikings, Colts and the Jets possibly making some moves to try to fit Tyreek into the starting lineup. But regardless, that’s who i had projected to be in the running for Tyreek Hill. These decisions factor in many things including money, potential players leaving, teams starting a rebuild, etc.
