Just a couple months after a Paul Skenes MLB Debut patch was sent to Topps, an offer including 30 years of season tickets. The card has finally been found. The card was found by a 11-y/o from the California area.

The Pirates we’re offering an extensive list of benefits in there offer, including a meet-and-greet with Skenes, in return for the card. But the 11 y/o and his family ultimately decided to send it to Fanatics Auction. Where Fanatics has announced the proceeds will go to those affected by the LA wildfires.

The card received a full PSA 10 grade from PSA.

Pirates full offer:

  • Two season tickets for the next 30 years behind home plate
  • Two autographed Skenes jerseys
  • A meet-and-greet with Skenes
  • A softball game at PNC Park for 30 people with coaching from Pirates alumni
  • A “one-of-a-kind” spring training experience at Pirates City.
  • Watch a game in a luxury suite with Skenes’ girlfriend

Topps on their Twitter/X posted the 11y/o’s journal entry, where he explained that Topps had just released the 2024 Chrome Update Hobby Boxes. He mentioned the price was a little higher than expected but understandable. That’s when he started begging his mom for the cards for Christmas.

But there was a problem, he knew that supply and demand would cause the prices to raise. He decided to go into “full beg mode”. Then his mom said that he’d get it for him. Unfortunately due to the busy day at work, she forgot to buy it that day. His parents told him that they would get it for him on Black Friday since the prices should drop.

“THE PRICES DID NOT DROP”

Instead the prices had raised to 350$. The 11y/o collector was told to choose another gift. But then, they found one for 320$. They bought it for him, and when he arrived home, they told the young collector the good news.

Fast forward to Christmas morning, the young collector wakes up his brother at 4am. Two and a half hours later, which probably felt like weeks for the collector and his brother, they finally went to go wake up their parents.

The first gift that the collector opened was the hobby box. His brother received a big lego set. The young collector decided to open 3 packs, got some cool cards and decided to open more gifts. Then after more gifts got passed around, he got two more packs out of the box. Opened the first pack, with some cool finds. Then the second pack gets opened.

“Hey dad, i pulled the Paul Skenes redemption card”

“No, you didn’t” said the young collectors father. He turned the card around to show him. They had struck gold. Huge cheers erupted from the family, the young collector ran all over the house screaming “LETTTTS GOOOO”

At the end of his journal entry, the young collector ended it off with “I am 11 years old, so pulling this card is a dream come true”

Pirates chairman Bob Nutting said in a statement about the 11 y/o pulling the 1-of-1 card.

“We had a lot of fun with the idea of a bounty, but we couldn’t be happier for this young baseball fan and his family”

“Reading his story on how he pulled the card on Christmas morning, what a magical moment. That family bond is what baseball is all about. I would love to host him and his family and follow through with a meet-and-greet with Paul and his teammates, either here in Pittsburgh or when we travel to L.A.”
