Arkansas Tech opened up their bout of tournament play against Central Oklahoma, two schools that are separated by over 250 miles on a map, decide the fate of their tournament run in one game.
The Wonder Boys stretched it out to an early lead in the second inning after Christian Olea had a stand-up double which you can find below.
With two outs in the second inning, the Wonder Boys really hit Central Oklahoma hard. Simon Murray was then walked, which led to Luke Ray getting hit by a pitch. At this point, the bases were loaded for ATU with Grant Jones up to bat, he draws the walk and gets the first RBI for the Wonder Boys, a RBI walk. From there, Sardelli, Dawson and Jenkins all had their chance at bringing some runners in.
This allowed the Wonder Boys to go through the order once again in the second inning with Olea drawing a walk, and later stealing second.
By the fifth inning, the Wonder Boys we’re leading 11-1, and after a slight hiccup on defense for Wonder Boys, that allowed 5 runs in the 5th inning, they still led the game comfortably. Unfortunately this ended Daniel Hutchison’s day.
Daniel pitched 5.0 IP, 7 H, 6 R (2 ER) 1 BB, 5 K
Ashton Greenlee came in to relief Hutchison and was able to pitch 4 innings and only allow 2 hits, 2 runs and had 3 strikeouts on 15 batters faced.
Grant Jones had an impressive day drawing in FIVE RBI’s and was also able to draw a a walk.
Christian Olea went a perfect 2-2 on the day, and also was able to draw 3 walks to put himself in prime position to get some scoring done. Olea was able to touch home plate twice for 2 runs.
The Wonder Boys beat Central Oklahoma 14-8.
Arkansas Tech will face regional host Central Missouri in a winners’ bracket game at 6 p.m. Friday in Warrensburg, Missouri.
