Corbin Burnes during his last start was removed due to what the team is calling ‘right elbow inflammation’. On Monday, Burnes didn’t travel with the team to Atlanta and got a MRI done. No matter what the MRI showed, he’d be missing his next start. In anticipation of this, the Diamondbacks recalled Tommy Henry to assume Ryne Nelson’s position in the bullpen, while Nelson filled the hole in the starting rotation.
It was announced yesterday, that Corbin Burnes first MRI came back inconclusive. He will be going for a second opinion with Dr.Neal Alttrache, who is the head doctor for the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Rams, he also serves as the orthopedic consultant for the Los Angeles Kings, Los Angeles Lakers and the Anaheim Ducks. He is also a top-surgeon in elbow, shoulder, and knee procedures.
Some of the big names that Dr.Alttrache has worked on previously is Kobe Bryant, Joe Burrow, Clayton Kershaw, Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Rodgers, and Zack Greinke.
Now just because Burnes is going to see this doctor, doesn’t mean that we should worry just yet. If the injury was severe enough, it would’ve popped up on the MRI, but Gambo said the results were inconclusive. Personally, i think this just Scott Boras, Burnes agent and the Diamondbacks being cautious of their player. If the Diamondbacks decide to trade Zac Gallen at the deadline, Burnes is next in line to take the ace position on paper. They will need to make sure everything is okay in that elbow before putting him in a scenario where he may get injured again.
