Chase Burns Stuns in Debut in Front of 5th Largest Reds Home Crowd in 25’

‘This is sick’ muttered Chase Burns to his catcher during a mound visit. After Chase Burns struck out the side in the first inning, fans were impressed and ready to see what Burns will bring. That’s when he comes into the second, and strikes out two more. He had 5 straight strikeouts, something that hasn’t been done since 1961 (expansion era). Burns finished the night with 5.1 ip, 6 h, 3 er with 8 strikeout and no walks allowed. “(It was) everything I could ask for,” Burns said of his debut. “I mean, walking off like that, to be in the dugout and see that — there’s nothing better than that.”

Bengals Future Looms in the Balance

By June 30th, the Bengals will have a decision to make. Since April, the Bengals and the County they play in have been clashing heads. Since April, both sides have been trying to figure out ways to keep the Bengals in Cincinnati for an extended time, and pay for renovations. Without an agreement, the Bengals can exercise a two-year rolling extension on the current lease that runs through the 2027 season.

Some of the minor stuff has been figured out, for example the County passed a 1.5m renovation project for the Bengals earlier this year. But the question is, will the County and the Bengals be able to figure out a way to keep the team at Paycor. Without the fans/citizens of the county having the take the burden of the ‘taxes’.

Executive Vice President, Katie Blackburn was asked during the league meetings this year about the issue and this was her response.

“We could, I guess, go wherever we wanted after this year if we didn’t pick the option up,” Blackburn said. “We’ll see. Like I said, all these things will be done in due course. We are having discussions, and so we’re hopeful that the county is thinking about it a lot, too, and wants to get it addressed in a way that would be beneficial to both of us.”

Merrifeld 3x All-Star Hangs up the Glove

After a 9 year MLB career, the 3x All-Star, 3x Stolen Base Leader, player of the year for the Royals in 2018, and a CWS World Series Championship back in 2010. An amazing career, and now Whit Merrifeld will be calling it a career. Merrifeld has a career 17.8 WAR, 94 HR’s, 1249 career hits and 94 home runs. Merrifeld spent his 9 year career mostly with the Royals, but he also saw some stints with the Blue Jays, Phillies and the Braves. He did not sign with a new team in the offseason and has now made his decision. Thank you for everything you’ve done, good wishes on your retirement, Whit!

Dbacks Fans Stand up for Marte

During yesterday’s game VS the White Sox, the Arizona Diamondbacks were making a pitching chance. A particular person decided to call out to Marte. Not for the usual baseball banter, something far more darker than that. Marte hasn’t been very public about his mother’s passing. But yesterday, this person crossed the line. This person said something about Marte’s mom, who passed away in a car accident back in 2017. Marte was visibly shaken up, breaking down on the field, with Torey Lovullo there to console him.

After the game, the clubhouse was closed immediately to reporters but was later opened up. Torey Lovullo had this to say about the situation:

But now Dbacks fans are letting Ketel know, he isn’t standing alone in this. Popular AZ sports fan, Mr.AZ posted and asked fans what they thought about doing a standing ovation. Fans were in all in agreement that this has to be done. If you’re going to the Arizona Diamondbacks game on Friday at Chase Field, wear pink if you want to also show support. BUT you are required to give Marte a standing ovation. I don’t make the rules, i just enforce em.

UPDATE:

From Casey Drottar
“per the White Sox, the fan in question has been banned from Rate Field. He was reportedly apologetic and remorseful for the comment made.”

PCA Miscue Leads to Another Cubs Blunder

The Cubs have hit the torrential slump that every team is destined to reach at one point. But yesterday seemed like the boiling point. After a pop-out to PCA with two-outs. PCA held onto the ball, that allowed the runner from second to score. Despite Nico Hoerner’s 2 run shot, it wasn’t enough to push them over St.Louis. They lost 8-7, and now Cubs fans will always have the question in their mind. What would have happened if PCA knew it was two outs and not three. Talking to a friend of mine that is a long time Chicago fan, he said it all comes down to their pitching department. Which is very true, the Cubs have allowed over 50 runs in their past six games.
