It was the third official game of the ‘season’ for the Old Pueblo Tribe and another impressive victory yet again. The Tribe welcomed the Colt 45’s to their home field for the next month and it was a fun one.

Daniel Davila got the start for the Tribe and he impressed yet again, going perfect through 2.0 innings of his start. Davila was able to get three strikeouts. Continuing his scoreless streak for the Tribe, last weekend, Davila appeared in a game for the Sante Fe Fuego and was able to lock down two strikeouts. Davila will certainly be a name to watch for fans and potential scouts.

Kaiden Reeve, Oscar Estrada, Mike Jankowski and Alex Gamez all came in for relief appearances and were able to lock down to Colt 45’s. Doing their job keeping this game close for the offense, who have continued to keep making noise this season.

The scoring was started early by the Tribe in the first inning after Angel Faras was able to draw a walk, and Sean Phelan extending the pressure on the Colt 45’s with a single. That early traffic on the bases worked out well for the Tribe. With Faras on third, and Phelan with a huge lead off first base, ready to steal second. The Colt 45’s pitcher attempted a pickoff and was overthrown.

This allowed the runners to advance all one base with Faras touching home.

Then later on in the fourth inning, a single by Dylan Hartmann paved the way for Sean Phelan to once again put pressure on the Colt 45’s, and he did just that. Extending the at-bat, waiting for his pitch and after two wild pitches later, and a sacrifice groundout to second. Phelan helped extend the lead for the Tribe.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Tribe was looking for a spark to get the comeback started, and that’s what they got. Michael Vasquez was able to get on base after a single to center-field, then Angel Faras once again showed off his patience at the plate by drawing his second walk of the night. Dylan Hartmann also was able to draw a walk which paved the way yet again for Sean Phelan.

Bases loaded with 2 outs and Sean Phelan once again put pressure on the Colt 45’s, they threw yet another wild pitch to him, which allowed Michael Vasquez to score from third.

Now the Old Pueblo Tribe were starting to dip into the Colt’s lead, and in the bottom of the sixth, Marcus Catalano was able to get the rally started. Pinch hitting for Oscar Estrada, Catalano was hit-by-pitch. But that HBP didn’t affect him at all, being able to advance from first to third on a wild pitch.

That sequence of events, led to Cesar Santiago stepping into the batters box, he was tasked to pinch-hit for Mike Jankowski and after a six-pitch battle, Santiago was able to make hard contact to left field, scoring Marcus and cutting the Colt’s lead down to one.

Arturo Madrigal came in to pinch hitting for Michael Vasquez and after another solid battle at the plate, Madrigal was able to hit a double, advancing Santiago to third.

Oscar Estrada then came in to bat, let’s not forget that Estrada also had came in for a relief appearance earlier in the game and held the Colt’s to a scoreless two innings with one strikeout. But like they say, good things come in two. Estrada was able to hit a go-ahead 2-run rbi single, which helped take the lead from the 45’s. A solid night of play for another pitcher who recently got his first professional baseball league appearance with the Fuegos

But the fireworks weren’t done just yet, it seems like the Tribe has a lifelong supply of fireworks in the dugout with the way they have been playing recently. In the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs, Anthony Moreno came up to bat, it only took him one pitch. A solo-homerun to right field, which extended the lead for the Tribe.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Hector Torres was due to lead off, in case you have forgotten, let us remind you, he’s been on a tear lately. Batting a .400 before this game against the 45’. Just like clock work though, Torres struck again, hitting a crucial triple in the bottom of the eighth inning in a tied game situation.

Cesar Santiago came up to the plate, and only needed two pitches to bring Torres home on a go-ahead RBI single. That was Santiago’s second hit of the night and his second RBI. It was a huge day for him at the plate going a perfect two-for-two in his two AB’s.

The Old Pueblo Tribe kept Alex Gamez on the mound in the ninth inning to close out the game for them and he did just that. The Tribe beat the Colt 45’s 8-7, and improve their 2025 record to 2-1. The Tribe will be looking to take their winning percentage to a .750 this coming Saturday when they welcome Coyotes Baseball to Murrieta Park at 6PM.
