Now according to Bob Nightengale from USA Today, GM’s are heavily expected to be more willing to take on players who are set to be free agents this offseason. He also mentioned that GM’s that are in contending positions, are expected to be far more aggressive in trade talks this deadline, due to their not really being a clear favorite for the World Series title.

GM’s also told Bob that they are expecting contenders to make their top prospects available, two names that kept getting mentioned were Owen Caissie from the Chicago Cubs and Harry Ford for the Seattle Mariners.
Moving Harry Ford would make complete sense for the Mariners if the return is right, especially considering that his path to the MLB may be blocked, by who is at the catcher position for the Mariners currently. (Psst he also leads the MLB in HR’s). Harry Ford is the Mariners fifth ranked prospect per MLB Pipeline, but with Cal Raleigh recently signing a six-year/105m extension, it seems inevitable that Ford will be moved.
GM’s also mentioned that the Arizona Diamondbacks are expected to be huge sellers come deadline period. Many stating that they would need to sell to have a fighting chance for seasons to come. The Dbacks have made Josh Naylor, Eugenio Suarez, Zac Gallen, and Merrill Kelly available in trade conversations. The Diamondbacks are also willing to move any of their OF’s, including Lourdes Gurriel Jr, Jake McCarthy, Alex Thomas and Randal Grichuk.
Zac Gallen has generated interest from the Blue Jays and the Yankees, with the Mariners gaining interest in a reunion with Suarez and have also asked about Naylor.
The Phillies are looking to make a huge splash this trade deadline as well, their name has been linked in talks for relievers David Bednar and Dennis Santana from the Pirates. Outfielder Luis Robert Jr from the Chicago White Sox, as well as Griffin Jax and Jhoan Duran, the hope for the Phillies is to acquire at least two of those relief arms mentioned.

The White Sox are shopping Luis Robert Jr in trade talks and have a huge list of potential buyers, with eight teams calling in asking about more. Some of those teams mentioned are the Mets, Royals, Padres, Dodgers, and Phillies.
Despite the Pirates being in full sell mode (despite Paul Skenes), Bryan Reynolds has sent over his no-trade protection list to the Pirates. Those teams included the Yankees, Mets, Blue Jays, Dodgers, Giants and Padres.
The Rays are listening to offers on Taj Bradley in hopes for a decent return, with the Orioles entering full sell mode, making Zach Eflin, Charlie Morton and Tomoyuki Sugano available at the deadline.
The Atlanta Braves are making Marcell Ozuna and Raisel Iglesias available at the trade deadline. Ozuna can reject any deal made with his 10 and 5 rights.
The Yankees have been fielding calls on catcher, J.C. Escarra; look for the Yankees to make Escarra available in their pursuit for a third baseman or pitching.

Despite the Red Sox and Alex Bregman not having any conversations about an extension up until this point. It is expected that Alex Bregman will NOT be traded with the upcoming deadline. The Red Sox aren’t in any mood to sell amid their 10-game winning streak heading into the All-Star break but they are open to trading their extra OF’s for some pitching.
The Chicago Cubs have reported interest in these pitchers down below
- Luis Severino
- Sandy Alcantara
- Edward Cabrera
- Mitch Keller
- Zac Gallen
Despite signing one of the biggest deals in Athletics history, Luis Severino hasn’t enjoyed his time in Sacramento so far. Even at one point saying the home stadium felt like “spring training”. According to Bob Nightengale, the Athletics can’t wait to trade Severino after his comments.
The Yankees will be heavily shopping a third baseman this deadline after manager Aaron Boone told the media that Jazz Chisholm Jr. would be making the move back to second base. You may be thinking to yourself, well why not put in D.J. Lemahieu, well the Yankees recently DFA’d him. The Yankees will owe over 30m to players, Aaron Hicks and Lemahieu after their releases.
There is also the very low possibility that Emmanuel Clase could be traded this deadline. Now this would need to be perfect circumstances, with both teams being in a buyer situation and willing to give the Guardians some offense help. Now it will take a huge deal with some prospects to move Clase especially with his contract having full team control until 2028.
