NL Wins All-Star Game in First Ever Swing Off
The NL dugout was watching closely in the top of the ninth with two outs, and Steven Kwan up to bat. He does what he does best, and got on base. Driving in the game-tying run for the American League. That’s when Dave Roberts turned to his players in the dugout, and said
“Hey guys, you aren’t going to believe this, but…”
Then Roberts went on to explain the new MLB format to his players. It’s simple. 3 batters from each team, get three swings. Whoever has the most home runs at the end of the three AB’s, wins the All-Star Game.
You probably think that players like Aaron Judge, Cal Raleigh or even Shohei Ohtani came up to hit those home-runs right? Well, according to multiple reports from reporters most of the starters had already gotten on flights and left Atlanta.
Kyle Schwarber won the All-Star-Game MVP after hitting three home runs on three swings in the swing-off to clinch the win for the NL.
Tampa Bay Rays to be Sold for 1.7bn
Yesterday, it was reported first by The Athletic that the Tampa Bay Rays would be sold to a group led by Patrick Zalvpki. The Athletic reported that the sale would be final by September and are expected to stay in the Tampa Bay Area.
This is a huge return on investment for former owner, Stu Sternburg bought the team in 2004 for only 200m and sold it for a return of 1.5bn.
Despite the stadium being damaged to a Hurricane that wrecked havoc on the Florida, city officials and the Rays currently are close to an agreement on a deal to provide funding to help renovations to the ballpark. A total of 1.3bn is set to be approved and the stadium is expected to be ready by 2026, according to Commissioner Rob Manfred.
Teddy Bridgewater Suspended by FHSSA
Teddy Bridgewater has always been a standup guy, on and off the field. Always giving back to the community, and fans alike. Even now, he is still doing anything he can to give back, including helping his players from the football team he coaches.
The way he’s been helping them is providing monetary funds for player expenses, pre-game and post-game meals and Ubers to help the players either get to practice, games, or even school.
But that unfortunately didn’t sit right with the Florida High School Athletic Association. They are suspending Teddy Bridgewater for ‘alleged impermissible benefits.”
Teddy Bridgewater confirmed the suspension in a post to his Facebook which has since then been deleted.
“The suspension came from MNW (Miami Northwestern) and it’s impossible to suspend someone who doesn’t work for you. So if im suspended from MNW im free to go to another school of my choice but IM NOT GOING ANYWHERE, and if it comes down to it, I will volunteer from the bleachers like I used to in 2018 and 2019 when no one had a problem.”
The investigation always comes just a week after Bridgewater posted another post to his Facebook, asking for donations.
“Today I’m coming to you on behalf of the football team and seeking donations to assist our boys this season and to help me carry the load so I no longer have to take from my personal funds to keep smiles on these young men face and remind them that they matter,” he wrote. “From daily uber rides, to feeding the boys MLK ($1500 a week) every morning following our morning training sessions to feeding the boys catered pasta during the season, to pride sets, to training camp — I cover ALL THE EXPENSES.”
MLB Players Union tell Their International Players to Carry Docs With Them
The MLBPA sent over a memo to all their players, whether they were in the Minor Leagues or the Majors. It’s still relevant for everyone. And while Bear Sports News has always prided itself in not sharing political stuff on here and on socials. This is still important to talk about. Now we aren’t in anyway saying we support any candidate or these policies. We are only sharing the news that’s important, so now that, that’s out of the way, let’s get to the real article.
“It is a concern,” union head Tony Clark said Tuesday prior to the sport’s All-Star Game. “It is challenging on multiple levels, but we continue to communicate with our guys and assure them, whether they’re at the minor-league level or at the major-league level, this is how best to protect yourself.”
The Players Association has told their players, to keep their immigration documents on their person at all times, this comes in after United States President has issued multiple policies on the border, a well is issuing a 12-country travel ban.
“When the administration first started talking about border issues and the fact that there was going to be limitations, we did have conversations with the administration,” Manfred told The Athetic. “They assured us that there was going to be protections for our players, for example, going back and forth between the U.S. and Canada. They told us that was going to happen, that’s what happened.”
Manfred met with Trump in person in April.
The travel ban includes an exception for athletes, coaches, support staff and immediate relatives “for the World Cup, Olympics, or other major sporting event as determined by the Secretary of State.”
Clark said the commissioner’s office and the union are giving players the same advice.
“Educated players make educated decisions,” he said.
I also thought about another fun addition to this page, news that doesn’t really have enough information for a full article. Bear Sports News will call it, quickfire headline section.
- NBA officials have had positive conversations about adding an expansion team, “A lot of analysis still needs to be done, and nothing’s been predetermined one way or another, and without any specific timeline,” Silver said.
- New Orleans Pelicans will fully guarantee Zion Williamson contract for the upcoming NBA season
- PAC12 and Mountain West have failed to resolve the 150m poaching fees case in mediation. Both sides have requested that the courts hold a hearing on Sept. 9th.
- Caitlin Clark leaves Indiana Fever game due to ‘groin’ injury. Earlier in the season, Clark missed time due to the groin injury as well. The All Star Break is here for the WNBA, so that should help the rehab process for Clark.
