🏥 Major Injuries & Team Shakeups
Chiefs Lose Left Tackle Wanya Morris for the Season
Big blow for the Kansas City Chiefs. Left tackle Wanya Morris suffered a knee injury during the first play of Sunday night’s game and was ruled out for the rest of the season. He was helped off the field and seen leaving in crutches. He stepped in due to prior injuries on the line, but now Kansas City must patch up the line again.
On top of that, right tackle and guard depth is shaky. The Chiefs are dealing with multiple absences and now must lean even harder on backups. This could affect their pass protection and running game down the stretch.
Bengals’ Edge Rush Threat Trey Hendrickson Likely Out with Core Surgery
The Cincinnati Bengals are expected to be without defensive end Trey Hendrickson after he was told he needs core muscle surgery. He has been a consistent pass-rushing force, and losing him could weaken the Bengals’ edge presence.
Hendrickson has had his share of big seasons in the past, so this is a serious hit for Cincinnati. The date of his return is uncertain, which makes the rest of the season more of an uphill climb for that defense.
Zach Ertz Tears ACL for Commanders; Season Over
Tight end Zach Ertz suffered a torn ACL this week while playing for the Washington Commanders. That means he’s done for the year. Ertz has been a veteran presence and contributor at tight end, so his loss leaves a noticeable hole in Washington’s offense and passing game.
Raiders’ Cornerback Kyu Blu Kelly Also Out for Season
The Las Vegas Raiders confirmed that cornerback Kyu Blu Kelly is out for the rest of 2025. That’s a major blow to their secondary, especially with the tough schedule they have ahead. The injury leaves them scrambling for depth at a position where consistency matters more than ever.
⚠️ Colts in Full Crisis Mode at Quarterback
Starter Daniel Jones Suffers Season-Ending Achilles Tear
In a devastating turn of events for the Indianapolis Colts, Daniel Jones suffered a torn right Achilles during a game against the Jaguars. He was immediately ruled out, ending his 2025 season and putting Indy’s playoff chances in serious jeopardy.
Jones had thrown for 3,101 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions this season. He had been putting the offense on his back, and now the team loses not only his production but also key leadership and experience on a short week.
Backup Riley Leonard was pressed into action after Jones went down, but now he’s dealing with a knee injury and is questionable for the next game. Anthony Richardson is also still on IR and isn’t expected to return this season. That leaves Indianapolis with very few good options under center, and even a veteran like Philip Rivers is reportedly getting a workout visit from the Colts as an emergency fallback.
With another QB injured, the Colts are looking at really thin depth. This could force them to promote from the practice squad or even think about emergency measures. The timing is brutal for a team fighting to stay in playoff contention.
Coaching Decisions Spark Betting Controversy
Pete Carroll’s final play call in Week 14 is getting a very different kind of attention, and it is coming from fans on the betting side of things. With the Raiders trailing by 10 and only five seconds left, Carroll chose to kick a field goal instead of taking a shot at the end zone. The kick made the score 24 to 17 as time expired, and the Raiders never had a chance to run another play.
The issue for many fans is how the decision impacted the spread and the over and under. The line closed at Raiders plus 7.5 and the total was set at 40.5. Carroll’s choice kept the Raiders within the spread and kept the final total over. That combination immediately led to questions online about why the team would settle for three points in a situation where a comeback was almost impossible.
Carroll later explained his thinking in his postgame comments. He said he wanted to take the game to the final second and give his team at least one more scoring action. Many fans did not buy that explanation, and social media quickly filled with accusations that the call made no competitive sense but made perfect sense in the context of the betting numbers.
“I knew it was going to look stupid, like you couldn’t figure out why we were doing it,” Carroll said Monday, via Ryan McFadden of ESPN. “But there was a clear thought of what we were trying to get down there, just to take it down to the very last click. That might not be good enough for you, I understand that, but I think you can see what we were trying to do, but it just didn’t work out.”
Whether the call was strategic or simply puzzling, the reaction has become one of the biggest talking points of the week. Fans are still debating if it was a genuine football decision or one that unintentionally swung the betting results in a very specific direction.
📝 Other Notable Moves & Roster Updates
- The Bengals are waiving wide receiver Jermaine Burton. He’ll be off the roster, which means some young receivers might get pushed into bigger roles soon.
- The Cleveland Browns are giving starting duties to Shedeur Sanders for the remainder of the 2025 season. That decision signals the front office is ready to see what their younger guys can do under pressure for the remainder of the season.
- There’s new chatter in Vegas about the coaching staff, with potential front-office and coaching changes involving Pete Carroll and John Spytek. The Raiders might be rethinking direction if the results don’t improve.
- The Browns are reportedly leaning toward retaining QB Deshaun Watson for 2026. Given their instability at quarterback, that could bring some continuity or tension, depending on performance.
- The Arizona Cardinals might absorb salary to trade starter Kyler Murray, and veteran Jacoby Brissett is being floated as a trade candidate in that scenario. Could be an interesting offseason if they’re willing to eat money to open up flexibility.
- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expecting receiver Mike Evans to push for a return in Week 15. His veteran presence could boost their offense if he gets healthy.
- The Tennessee Titans might trade quarterback Will Levis. He’s been on a lot of radars lately, and a fresh start could benefit both sides.
🔎 What It All Means
This might be one of the wildest stretches of the 2025 season yet. Teams are losing key players across offense, defense, and special teams — and suddenly depth matters more than ever.
For the Chiefs, Morris’s injury could force them to shuffle the line even more while trying to protect a fragile offense. The Bengals and Raiders will need to lean on second-stringers or youth if Hendrickson and Kelly stay down. The Colts are teetering on disaster. With multiple QB injuries, they may be forced to dig deep into the back of the roster. The Phillip Rivers workout signals they’re exploring all options. Across the league, roster moves are accelerating. Teams are deciding who to stash, who to cut, and who to carry into next season.
Injuries are part of the game, but when they hit this many critical spots all at once, we might be looking at a major shift in the playoff and free-agency picture.
