Welcome to the Rumor Roundup, where we sort through the noise and break down everything happening around the league. The Winter Meetings are in full swing, teams are getting aggressive and the market is starting to move in every direction. Some clubs are chasing star power, others are trimming payroll and a few are quietly preparing to surprise everyone. Here is everything we are tracking right now and why each rumor actually matters.

Mets Staying Active With Kyle Schwarber Interest

The Mets are involved in plenty of conversations, and one of the loudest right now is their pursuit of Kyle Schwarber. The Mets need a middle of the order threat, and Schwarber fits that perfectly. The interesting part is that the Pirates already made him a four year offer, so New York is not operating alone here. The Mets have money to spend, but they also have to figure out what their lineup looks like if they add someone who provides huge power and not much defense. The price and the years are the biggest questions, but this rumor has real traction.

Pete Alonso Meets With Red Sox And Orioles

Pete Alonso meeting with both Boston and Baltimore might be the biggest development of the week. Every winter it feels like Alonso is part of a rumor, but now he is actually talking to clubs. The Red Sox need power and star appeal, while the Orioles need a right handed run producer to replace some of their lost pop. Both clubs make sense. The Mets remain in the picture, but Alonso taking these meetings shows he wants to explore his market. The longer this drags on, the more likely it feels that he leaves New York.

Blue Jays Showing Interest In Robert Suarez

Toronto’s bullpen needs help and the Blue Jays are going after one of the safer options. Robert Suarez is coming off a strong season in San Diego, and Toronto seems ready to compete financially. The Jays are usually pretty aggressive with relievers, and Suarez is the type of arm contenders feel comfortable investing in. Nothing seems close yet, but the interest is legit.

Nationals Receiving Strong Interest On CJ Abrams

The Nationals have a tough decision to make. CJ Abrams is one of their few cornerstone pieces, and he took another step forward last season. That has made him a target for several teams. The Nats are at least listening, which is already a big deal. Teams rarely get a chance at a young shortstop with speed, defense, and improving power. Washington will need an overpay to even think about it. This one feels more like a rumor than something that is actually going to happen, but it is still worth tracking.

Royals Looking To Add Multiple Outfielders

Kansas City wants to stay competitive after surprising people last year. Their outfield depth is thin and they want to bring in at least two outfielders. They have been connected to a handful of names already, and their interest matches their timeline. Bader, Verdugo, and other mid tier options make sense. The Royals will not be spending like the Dodgers or Yankees, but they want experienced players who fit around Bobby Witt Jr and the rest of their young core.

Giants Also Interested In Harrison Bader

The Giants are searching for reliable defense and athleticism, and that has led them straight to Harrison Bader. His offense comes and goes, but his glove is still among the best. San Francisco can use that in their huge outfield. Bader is one of the more mobile options on the market and the Giants always seem to prioritize players who make them better defensively. It does not guarantee they get him, but they will at least be in the mix.

Pirates Make A Four Year Offer To Kyle Schwarber

While the Mets are poking around Schwarber, the Pirates have already stepped up with a four year offer. This is surprising because Pittsburgh usually stays away from longer deals, especially for older sluggers. Making this kind of offer shows how badly they want to improve their lineup. It also points to ownership trying to show a willingness to compete. No one knows yet if four years is enough, because Schwarber’s market is strong, but the Pirates have made themselves a real contender for him.

Mariners And Pirates Linked To Ketel Marte

Ketel Marte has come up in conversations involving both Seattle and Pittsburgh. The Mariners make sense because they need offense and they know Marte well from his early career days there. The Pirates popping up in this rumor says they are exploring more than just Schwarber. Marte would be an expensive trade target, but he solves a lot of lineup issues for any team that adds him. Arizona has not shown clear signs that they want to move him, so this is more of an early stage rumor.

Big Market Interest Growing In Zac Gallen

This is the one rumor that could change the entire offseason. The Cubs, Giants, Angels, and Tigers have all shown interest in Zac Gallen. Any team looking for a true front line arm is monitoring this situation. The Diamondbacks are not just going to move him for the sake of it, but his value is sky high. A trade would require multiple top prospects. Gallen is one of the most trusted pitchers in baseball and teams rarely get chances at someone like him. At this stage it feels more like teams checking in rather than anything close to real, but it is a storyline worth watching.

Cubs Have Interest In Eugenio Suarez

The Cubs are exploring infield help and Eugenio Suarez has become one of their targets. Chicago wants more power from the right side and Suarez still provides that even with the strikeouts. He fits their timeline, he can handle third base every day, and his veteran presence is something the Cubs have been looking for. Nothing is close yet, but the interest is real and he is clearly on their list.

Mariners Open To Reunion With Mitch Garver

Seattle has the door open for a possible reunion with Mitch Garver. He played well for them and the Mariners know exactly what they would be getting. They need more production behind the plate and Garver offers both power and experience. His bat remains his main selling point, but his familiarity with the organization makes this a natural fit if the sides decide to move forward.

Eury Perez Only Untouchable Starter In Marlins Trade Talks

The Marlins continue to listen on their pitching and almost everyone is available for the right offer. The one arm they refuse to discuss is Eury Perez. Miami sees him as the centerpiece of their future and they are not entertaining anything involving him. The rest of their rotation is at least open for conversation which could set up a busy winter for them if teams want controllable pitching.

Phillies Interested In Cody Bellinger

The Phillies are checking on Cody Bellinger as they look for another impact bat. Philadelphia already has a strong lineup, but they could use another left handed hitter who brings power and athleticism. Bellinger fits that. The Phillies seem to be evaluating how he would slide into their outfield mix. They are not the only team involved, but their interest seems steady.

Blue Jays Interested In Kazuma Okamoto

Toronto is doing homework on Kazuma Okamoto as they search for offense. Okamoto has been one of the top power bats in Japan and the Jays need help in the middle of the order. He would bring real upside if his game translates. Toronto has been linked to a lot of bats early in the offseason and Okamoto is one of the more intriguing options they are considering.

Twins Planning To Keep Joe Ryan, Byron Buxton, Pablo Lopez

The Twins are shutting down speculation around their core players. They plan to keep Joe Ryan, Byron Buxton and Pablo Lopez. There were some questions about whether they might cut costs, but the Twins want to stay competitive and feel these three are essential to that. Teams have checked in, but Minnesota is not looking to move any of them.

A’s Not Looking To Move Luis Severino Simply To Shed Salary

Oakland is not interested in trading Luis Severino just to save money. They would listen if someone made a strong offer, but they will not move him for the sake of clearing his contract. Severino remains one of their most reliable arms and the A’s want value back if they make that move. So far nothing has pushed them in that direction.

Mets And Giants Met With Framber Valdez In November

Both the Mets and Giants met with Framber Valdez in November as they continue their search for starting pitching. Valdez is one of the top arms available and meetings are usually the first sign that real interest exists. The Mets need a frontline starter and the Giants want a dependable lefty for the top of their rotation. Both teams seem motivated, so this is a situation worth monitoring.
