D-backs second baseman Ketel Marte was placed on the restricted list just fifteen minutes before the game today. According to multiple reports, Ketel Marte did arrive in Boston with the team. That’s when he hadn’t arrived to Fenway for batting practice. The team was hoping that he’d arrive to Fenway shortly before the game started but he didn’t show up.

In a corresponding move, the D-backs are recalling 3B Jose Fernandez from their Triple-A affiliate, the Reno Aces. He was slashing a .271/.332/.467 line before the call up.

7:34 PM ET: Ketel Marte is “doing OK physically”, per Nick Piecoro. He just didn’t show up to the ballpark for tonight’s game.

7:57 PM ET: The D-backs already had a back-up plan in place for Nolan Arenado in case the injury showed up worse than expected. Which is why Jose Fernandez was able to arrive to Fenway so quickly. Fernandez was scratched last night after the Aces lineup was posted and worked out perfectly with having to put Marte on the restricted list unexpectedly.

11:58 PM ET: Torey Lovullo when asked about Ketel Marte: “All I know is that he’s dealing with a personal issue, he didn’t show up today and we put him on the restricted list. That’s all I know right now.”

Torey Lovullo mentioned that he knew something was up in the morning with Ketel. Lovullo said he had “very little” communication with Ketel Marte this morning and “very little was coming back”. Lovullo was asked by the media if Ketel was still in Boston but Lovullo wasn’t sure. He ended the postgame scrum by sending his well wishes and love for Ketel.

8:32 AM ET: Ketel Marte was seen at the hotel bar late night on Sunday with a group of people, according to Gambo. While this doesn’t tell us the full story, we have a better understanding of what transpired to make Marte miss the game and be placed on the restricted list.

11:15 AM ET: Ketel Marte remains in Boston, dealing with a personal situation. He and his family are fine. Marte has been in communication with the Diamondbacks through the appropriate channels and hopes to resolve his matter as soon as possible to return to playing baseball.

1:13 PM ET: Diamondbacks star second baseman Ketel Marte, who was placed on the restricted list with what the club termed a “personal matter,” is returning to Phoenix for an MRI on his left knee. This information was shared by a source with MLB.com’s Steve Gilbert. However, the team has not officially confirmed the news.

Marte had been sidelined from Friday’s game due to left knee soreness and missed Saturday before making a return to action on Sunday, playing second base. However, he failed to show up for Monday’s series opener in Boston against the Red Sox, where he had been designated as the designated hitter for Arizona’s eventual 11-1 loss. The team officially removed him from the lineup and placed him on the restricted list approximately 20 minutes before the start of the game.

Wednesday, August 19th, 2:11 PM ET: Charisse Espinosa-Dash, Ketel Marte’s agent, shared the following update with Jon Morosi today: “Ketel is currently dealing with a personal matter and will undergo an MRI on his knee tomorrow. He expresses his gratitude for the unwavering support from fans, teammates, the Diamondbacks organization, and Torey Lovullo during this challenging time. Despite the setback, he remains optimistic about his recovery and eagerly anticipates returning to the field to contribute to the team as soon as possible.”
