The Diamondbacks have returned from Mexico to the United States after a two game series with the Padres. They did split those two games, including a 7-1 comeback victory on Sunday. Unfortunately though, the injury bug is still around the Diamondbacks clubhouse. C Adrian Del Castillo, SS Geraldo Perdomo and RHP Zac Gallen all suffered injuries during those two games. Thankfully for Diamondbacks fans, the injuries they suffered aren’t believed to keep them out long term. Zac Gallen is expected to resume his throwing programs and make his next start. Perdomo was available off the bench on Sunday, and will likely be available for this series versus the Brewers. The timeline on Adrian Del Castillo is still unknown at this time, but with Gabriel Moreno still on the disabled list and not expected to return until the series versus the Cubs. This injury will be a massive blow to the D-backs, if ADC isn’t able to return this series.
Diamondbacks Probable Pitchers
Tuesday: Merrill Kelly 1-1, 9.31 ERA, 8 K
Wednesday: Eduardo Rodriguez: 2-0, 2.89 ERA, 18 K
Thursday: Michael Soroka: 4-0, 2.60 ERA, 34 K
The Brewers are first in the league with 36 stolen bases. Now, Aramis Garcia and James McCann both have extensive time behind the plate. As well as fielding percentages above .990 behind the plate. Both catchers combined have thrown out 200 batters behind the plate. The Diamondbacks will likely be using James McCann during this three game series, and keep Garcia in a must-need situation. As we mentioned, Gabriel Moreno will not be seeing a return this series due to a left oblique strain. The team says he will be making a return during the next series versus the Cubs.
The Diamondbacks also rank 8th in the league for stolen bases allowed with 16.
8. D-backs – 16
7. Yankees – 15
6. Phillies – 15
5. Padres – 14
4. Mariners – 12
3. Brewers – 11
2. Red Sox – 10
1. Mets – 9
The battle between these two teams is expected to be a good one. The Diamondbacks rank 10th or better in OPS, AVG, SLG, 2B, 3B and TB. This is also while the Diamondbacks have seen the least AB’s out of the whole league. The D-backs have also seen the emergence of INF Jose Fernandez and UTIL Ildemaro Vargas, who are both batting above .300.
Vargas is also riding an incredible 23 game hit streak that dates all the way back to last season. When Vargas hits, you can tell that the D-backs feed off of that. With that hitting streak, and his fire glove, he was named the NL Player of the Week last week. A huge congratulations to Vargas!
Patience Is Key Versus Milwaukee
The Brewers have quietly had some of the best pitching in baseball this season. They rank top 5 in ER, R, H and HR allowed and rank 8th in the league with a combined 3.82 ERA. Despite all this, the Brewers have thrown the least amount of strikes out of anyone in the league. If the Diamondbacks are able to work some at-bats and extend them early. I can definitely see this becoming a walk party for the D-backs.
The Diamondbacks are set to face Chad Patrick, Brandon Sproat and Brandon Woodruff this series, and they combine for 54 strikeouts.
Chad Patrick: 1-1, 23.0 IP, 2.35 ERA, 11 K, 1.26 WHIP
Brandon Sproat: 0-1, 22.1 IP, 6.45 ERA, 20 K, 1.57 WHIP
Brandon Woodruff: 2-1, 28.2 IP, 3.77 ERA, 23 K, 1.01 WHIP
Chad Patrick hasn’t played enough to be qualified as a ‘league leader’. If he did though, you’d see that Patrick has the 12th best ERA in the league amongst qualified pitchers. Patrick has a five pitch arsenal that mostly sees most of the work from his cutter, four seamer and sinker, with the slurve getting worked in there from time to time. He’s thrown a singular curve ball this season, which tracked on Baseball Savant, so technically five pitch arsenal. Patrick will have a chance to improve on his impressive numbers from April. During the month of April, he’s recorded a 2.41 ERA, with five runs allowed and seven strikeouts. Patrick is defintely a ground ball pitcher, but if the defense is behind him. Expect for Patrick to have a solid start. He gets the call for the first game, and will pitch against the team who selected him in the fourth round of the 2021 Draft. The Arizona Diamondbacks.
Brandon Sproat will be making just his sixth start of the 2026 campaign this series. He is still looking for his first scoreless start of the season. In all five of his starts, Sproat has allowed 16 runs with 20 strikeouts. His last three starts have been better though, only allowing five runs during that time, for a 2.96 ERA during that split. Sproat is starting to finally figure it out, and with a team that places top 10 in OPS, BA, TB, 2B and 3B’s, this will be Sproat’s biggest test thus far.

Brandon Woodruff has seen the most work out of anyone in the Brewers rotation, but has done a solid job. Woodruff relies on six pitches, with his four seam, changeup and sinker seeing a bulk of the work, with some sprinkles of a cutter, curveball and sweeper. Woodruff has a rough start versus the Red Sox on April 6th and is still trying to fix that ERA. ERA is kinda of an overlooked stat though, if we took away that one bad start, Woodruff’s ERA would currently be a 2.66. He’d have the 23rd best ERA in the league if we took away those five runs. Since then, Woodruff has recorded two quality starts since that April 6th game and his splits from the previous three games have been impressive.

Watch Out For The Sac Bunt!
The Arizona Diamondbacks will have their hands full this series. The Brewers are first in the league with stolen bases and top 5 in sacrifice bunts. Which just means that the defense will need to be on there absolute game this series. The D-backs have only had 15 errors through the season, which isn’t as impressive at those 2023 fielding numbers, but still good. The Dbacks rank in the top half of least errors allowed and rank 14th. A good series like this is definitely gonna be what the D-backs need to test the players, and see what players will need to work on as the season goes on.
D-backs Injury Report
After a two game series took out three of the Diamondbacks players, if you haven’t taken a breath since hearing the news. Well i have good news. None of the injuries suffered during the Mexico series, are believed to be longterm injuries. Meaning that Perdomo, Gallen and ADC shouldn’t have to hit the injured list.
The team said on Sunday that Perdomo was available off the bench for that game if needed. Which leads me to believe that he may likely be making a start during this upcoming series with the Brewers. Manager Torey Lovullo said that Perdomo really wasn’t able to put any weight on that left ankle that sprained when trying to field a ground ball. On Sunday though, just less than 24 hours before the injury, he was walking around the dugout and having a good time.
Lovullo also mentioned that the medical staff and the team are ‘encouraged’ that Gallen will be able to make his next start. Gallen was absolutely dealing till he got hit in the shoulder with a line drive. He had sat down the first seven batters he faced and was looking absolutely dialed in and prepared to give us a memorable start.
Adrian Del Castillo is still considered day to day with a dislocated left ring finger. The team is hopeful that ADC wont have to spend much time away from the team and is expected to travel with the team for the upcoming three game series.
Bear Sports News Predictions + Fun Stat of Series
The Arizona Diamondbacks have quietly been playing solid baseball. If the playoffs were to start today, the D-backs would be in a wild card spot. Which is exactly where they were in 2023 and made enough noise to reach the World Series. Now the Dbacks have scored 132 runs across 27 games, which is great. They have also left the least amount of men on base with 152. Second place is pretty far behind with 177. Which just means that the D-backs are completing their rallies. When the comeback against the Padres started, the bases were loaded and Tim Tawa cleared them with a grand slam. Bases were loaded once again and the D-backs banged a triple to get everyone off the bases. Not leaving those crucial runs on the board is hugely beneficial for a team whose bullpen tends to struggle from time to time. While fans await the return of A.J. Puk and Justin Martinez, the D-backs will need to just keep their heads above water. If they keep playing the same baseball they have, and getting some quality starts out of their rotation. I don’t see a situation where the D-backs lose this series against the Brewers. The pitching staff has already likely been alerted but the Brewers are third in the league with groundouts. Just two groundouts away from being first in the league. If the D-backs are able to force weak contact and keep the ball on the dirt, this should be an easy series for the D-backs. Pitching will need to get back on their game that they were on before April 19th. At that time, the D-backs were 10th in ERA, 5th in walks allowed and had a combined 1.22 WHIP, which was 6th best in the league. Now, just nine days later, the Diamondbacks are 23rd in the league with ERA and 16th in the league with WHIP. Keeping the Brewers bats will be the hard part of this series, but if the pitching staff is able to keep it at least 7-1, then the D-backs offense has a chance.
Prediction: Diamondbacks win the series, two games to one.
Fun Stat Of Series: The Arizona Diamondbacks haven’t been internationally walked since September 24th, 2025. They are one of three teams who haven’t seen any of their players be internationally walked this season. Phillies and Tigers are the other two.
